Family Law and Common Sense Tip of the Day: Don’t Do on Video That Which You do NOT Want to See Again in Court.

One way to ensure that a video of you does NOT go viral is to NOT do things that are being recorded on video.

Whether you’re dealing with a Family Law matter or just  hanging out with your friends, don’t do things  that you do not want to see again.

A recent video has gone viral of a UM college student being disgusting at Spring Break. It hearkens back to an Ozzie Osbourne stunt except this time it involved a hamster.

Sometimes we get caught up in the excitement of a new relationship or being around friends and do things we regret. Sometimes mind-altering substances loosen inhibitions. With a video camera being on nearly every cell phone, these days you cannot afford to lose your inhibitions and act foolish.

Matthew Thompson is a  Family Law Attorney and advises potential clients that if your Mother or a Judge would be ashamed of what you are doing, do something else, and for the love of Pete don’t video it!

Who’s #1?

There has been a lot of debate over who is #1…

There are polls, blogs, fan sites, trolls, media and other hype, but #1 in a Family Law situation has to be the children.

If you ever find yourself not knowing what to do, do what is best for the children.  Should you let Jr. go on a trip with dad when it’s not his time?

What is best for Jr.?

Is dad safe?

Is the trip meaningful?

Is it best for Jr.?  If you can answer these questions then you know what to do.

So, I have to give in every time? No, but you should be reasonable and if it means you don’t get to “act” like the other parent does, maybe that is a very good thing for Jr. to see!

In a Family Law situation make your children your #1 priority!

Mississippi State & Ole Miss College Game Day Tickets; Getting Scalped

The Mississippi State Bulldogs are ranked #3 in the Country.  The University of Mississippi is as well.  The tickets for their upcoming games are the hottest seat around!

Sell outs are a given, but you can still get tickets.  However, if you are selling your tickets to make a quick buck or $1,000.00 be aware of the law!

MCA § 97-23-97. Scalping of admission tickets at college events held on state property:
It shall be unlawful for any admission ticket to any athletic contest of any college or university of the State of Mississippi or for any admission ticket to any entertainment event held on state property to be sold for a price in excess of the price printed on the face of the ticket.

It shall be unlawful to sell any such admission tickets at any place or in any manner except at such places and in such manner as designated by the proper authorities issuing such tickets.

Nothing in this section shall prohibit a private individual from selling tickets bought for personal use at a price not to exceed the price on the face of the ticket.

Any person, firm or corporation violating any of the provisions of this section shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction thereof shall be punished as for a misdemeanor.

HISTORY: SOURCES: Laws, 1990, ch. 342, § 1, eff from and after July 1, 1990.

So, just selling your tickets at “market value” may well get you charged with a crime, a misdemeanor.  Go, enjoy the game!
